Good morning, dear readers! Or good day, I suppose, the stats show I have an interestingly high contingent of international readers, which, for the record, is insanely neat. Pretty wild people all across the World are reading these humble bumblings. Anyway, thank you for being here, to all, far and wide, you are exceedingly welcome and appreciated. Do you know what this introduction needs? More commas,,,,, And cowbell, obviously.
No more long-winded diatribe, please enjoy today’s selection. I haven’t been rhyming as much as in the past, it can be overly restrictive artistically. That said, it’s quite fun “solving” the puzzle and putting the correct words or pieces in place. First-year poetry engineering. Coming never to a college nowhere near YOU!
“Unknown Depth”, Feb. 12, 2024.
Two ships mutely passing
In the vantablack of night
Frigid waters glassing
Choking depth foreshadows blight
Pirates and pursuers
Each hunting their wayward prey
Most esteemed reviewers
Disagree to present day
Raiders or privateers
All perspective dependent
Seven-seas engineers
Or motives less transcendent
Like these twin ship’s battle
Truth is forever concealed
Slaughtered autumn cattle
Or divine liberty revealed.
Upon reflection, unknown depth is an amusing title as this poem has very little and an almost cardinally quantifiable lack thereof. Still, they say you can drown in as little as 30mm, (1.2 inches, Hi Americans!:)) of water, so maybe there is hope. We could probably all stand a wee bit more hope in the day-to-day anyway. Here’s as good a place as any to start. May we all not drown horribly in unusually small puddles. Here here! Hear Hear? I think both work contextually though the latter would likely be considered more traditionally accurate.
Thta’s where we’re calling it today, folks. Have a wonderful day/ weekend, wear your life jackets, and don’t verify whether “glassing” is actually a word because it likely is not.
Happy Trails and Waggy Tails! Speaking of which, Catherine the Great is recovering extremely well from her various infirmities. Long live the Empress Cat-dog! Hallowed be her names. There are a few. Thank you to all those who sent well-wishes, her tail never stopped and long may it wag!
